Schafer Development Co. builds residential, commercial and industrial properties, primarily in eastern Lorain and western Cuyahoga counties in northwest Ohio. (Click here for projects map.) When Don Schafer founded the company in 1970, he committed it to delivering high quality and honest value. To this day the company still defines value as "the best quality at the fairest price."

Two of Don's sons have joined him in the business. Steve, the company's President since 1991, is a graduate of Avon High School and the University of Toledo. Joe Schafer, Vice President - Sales and Marketing, also graduated from Avon High School and earned a degree in Business Administration from Baldwin-Wallace University. Both Steve and Joe are very active in the community, and are especially interested in a number of youth athletic programs, to which they've devoted countless hours as volunteer coaches and managers.

Schafer Development Co. has been recognized for excellence in construction by the Building Industries Association, and has recently been chosen as a "Weatherhead 100" company, a distinguished group of the fastest growing companies in northeast Ohio.

The company has been focusing its residential construction attention on Summer Hill, a community of approximately 150 traditional single-family homes, and The Avon Reserve at Summer Hill, an adjacent development of 175 single family detached cluster homes which won back-to-back Circle of Excellence Awards for Best Cluster Home Community and Best Cluster Home Designs. The 180-acre project is located between Lear-Nagle Rd. and Jaycox Rd., south of Detroit Rd., in Avon. (Click here for projects map.)

Three more communities have recently been opened in Avon, as has a multi-unit condominium development in Avon Lake.

Some of Schafer Development Company's recent Commercial Construction projects include the Avon Library, Countryside Plaza, and The Goddard School, all in Avon. Most recently completed is the Holy Trinity School addition, a multi-purpose facility which more than doubles the school's size, and adds a gymnasium and much-needed office space. Commercial construction plans include Stonebridge Center, an office/retail shopping plaza on Colorado Ave. (Rt. 611), an office condominium building on Rt. 83 at Chester Rd., another condominium office structure on Hale Street, and a unique retail/residential property in Avon's historic French Creek District.
